They are human beings. The TABs in this document, on the contrary, are meant for a computer. As a consequence, they have to be a bit more "exact". The following elements are distinguished: 1) Time intervals: '-' (most common), ';' (for measures), ',' (for counting). Commas and semi-colons are optional, hyphens are obligatory. How the time interval actually sounds is controlled by the third parameter of TAB2MID. 2) Notes to be played: ciphers '0' until '9' (most common). 3) The '=' signs have only a sensible meaning for electric guitar types. They may be ignored for acoustic guitars. See below. 4) The '#' sign indicates that a note ends at that point in time. Such stop's may be ignored, most of the time, for electric guitars. See below. The TAB2MID program automatically detects which lines of this document may be interpreted as TABs. Hence you may add any comments you like (as long as they are not too TAB-like ;-). 3-----,-----,-----,----- ;-----3-----,-----,----- Notes to be played: ciphers '0' until '9'. In order to avoid ambiguities, numbers like '12' and '25' have to be replaced by 'I2' and 'Z5' (because '12' can also be interpreted as a very fast '1-2'.) Hence capital letter 'I' denotes 'ten' and capital letter 'Z' denotes 'twenty'. The beginning of the accompanying note is always at the rightmost digit, however. Thus with 'I2', the note begins at '2'. But the addition of 'ten's and 'twenty's may disturb the normal counting. This problem may be solved by introducing an extra symbol, a blank, which effectively deferres counting, such as in the above example. Blanks are also useful when adding Lyrics to the TABs, as shown in the piece below: ^^^^^^ Coda ;--- -- ,-----,-----,-----;--- -- ,-----,-----,----- ;--- -- ,-----,-----,-----;--- -- ,---1-=---0-1---3- ;--- -- ,---0-=-----,-----0--- 2- 0-----,-----,----- 2--- 1- 2-----,-----2-----;--- -- ,-----,-----,----- 3--- =- #-----,-----,-----3--- =- #-----,-----,----- ;--- -- ,-----3-----#-----;--- -- ,-----3---=-#----- This is the end, so give me a break :-) For guitar types 1 - 4, by default, a note remains sounding until another note is plucked on the same string. This probably is an undesirable feature for electric guitars. Therefore, for guitar types 5 - 7, by default, a note remains sounding until any other note is plucked on any string. In order to compensate for all this, two extra features are added: 1) A 'continue' sign, denoted by '='. The note remains sounding, despite of any notes beginning on the other strings. 2) A 'stop' sign, denoted by '#'. The note stops sounding, despite of the absence of any notes being plucked on any string. 0-----,-----,-----,-----;-----,-----,-----,-----; ;---3-1-----1---3-=-----1-----#-----,-----,-----; ;-----,---2-,-----,-----;-----,-----,-----,-----; ;-----,-----,-----0-----;-----,-----,-----,-----; ;-----,-----,-----,-----3-----,-----3-----#-----; 1---=-#-----3---=-,-----;-----3-----,-----,-----;
